Nu Class members participated in a “School Holiday Food Giveaway” at Winegard Elementary School, at 7055 Winegard Rd., in Orlando. Between the hours of 8:30 am and 1:00 pm, about 1 week’s worth of food, including dry and canned food, produce, and bakery items, were given to families in need. Winegard Elementary is a high poverty school. Children eat school meals every weekday, but during the holiday break, they will not have those meals for 18 days. Class members built and taped food boxes, packed boxes, and greeted participants, as well as providing direct delivery to those families where necessary. For every $1 the church donates, Second Harvest expands to $9.
‘We had an awesome Holiday Food Give Away at Winegard Elementary School. We had 103 volunteers come to package and give about 70 pounds of food – which included 5 lb. bag of apples and 5 lb. bag of potatoes, dry food such as spaghetti, macaroni, canned spaghetti sauce, corn, and green beans, and baked goods plus a turkey. This was given to 274 households, including 689 adults, and 700 children.
Thank you so much to all of you who supported this event! Our “angels” of First Church were felt throughout the Christmas season. We all felt your loving hearts.
